Frances Backhouse is a biologist-turned-writer who has called the British Columbia coast home for more than half her life. As a freelance journalist, she has written stories that span the taxonomic range, but this is the first one focused on fish. Her six books include Woodpeckers of North AmericaOwls of North America, and Once They Were Hats: In Search of the Mighty Beaver.
