Frequently Asked Questions

What is a membership?

Any monthly or annual donation to Hakai Magazine counts as a membership—you choose the amount, and no amount is too small. Your contributions help us continue publishing the award-winning journalism that we’re known for.

Are you building a paywall?

No. We will continue to publish all of our stories for you to read online for free, and we won’t limit how much of our site you can see. If you can’t afford to support Hakai Magazine financially, nothing will change. But if you value what we do and you can afford it, please donate.

Can I make my donation by check?

Yes! Please make checks payable to “Tula Foundation.” Our mailing address is:

Attn: Hakai Magazine
Tula Foundation
PO Box 25039 RPO Tyee
Campbell River, BC, V9W 0B7
Canada

Is my donation tax deductible?

Hakai Magazine is part of the Tula Foundation, a registered charity in Canada. If you’re a Canadian donor, Donorbox will automatically send you a charitable donation receipt for your contributions.

How will you handle my personal data?

We will keep your personal information confidential and will not sell, trade, release, share, or distribute it to any other individuals, organizations, or agencies without prior consent or notification. Your email address will only be used for the purpose of corresponding with you.

If you have concerns related to your privacy, please contact us at members@hakaimagazine.com.
